RELEASING YOUR OWN PRINTS

YOU MUST BE PHYSICALLY PRESENT IN THE SHOP
Make sure you reserve a work table on wc.risd.edu
  • Send your print job from your Design application (InDesign, Illustrator, Preview, etc.) as you normally would and use the Pharos popup to submit your job to the server queue.
  • To release your job from the server queue to the printer, log in to mobileprints.risd.edu, select your job, select your printer, and submit the job. At this point your RisdBucks account will be charged.

SUBMITTING PRINT JOBS REMOTELY

CURRENT TURNAROUND TIME
DO NOT SEND JOBS ON FRIDAY NIGHTS OR SATURDAYS
Jobs only stay in the Queue for 48 hours. John and Ed are not in on weekends to release the prints.

Turnaround Time 24hrs (max) on weekdays.

PICK-UP LOCATIONS
Prints sent to the typeshop (DC301) will be available for pickup on the table outside of the typeshop. Likewise, prints sent to DC 701 will be available on the table outside that room.

PRINTING
Due to the very limited capacity of the shops during social distancing and the need to avoid physical contact with the Omega card readers and touch screens previously used for releasing print jobs. The card readers are now disabled! Jobs are now released on Mobileprints instead of the card readers.

There are no walk-ins for either shop. Work table and equipment use must be reserved on WebCheckout to gain access to the shops. Once a work table is reserved, students gain access to printers and other equipment in the shop.

Students must be on the RISD-WiFi network to print. If off campus, students may use a VPN to gain access.

As before, students will utilize the Pharos PopUp system to send their prints. See the links in the sidebar for installer downloads.

IF YOU ARE PRINTING REMOTELY
Because John and Ed are collecting the prints, they must have identifying marks on them.

First, save your file with the following information:
  • Your RISD username (ex. kbrown02) exclude the @risd.edu
  • Preferred printer (if you desire) (ex. 701PLOTTER1) if you do not specify in the file name, we may choose to use a different printer than what you indicated in your print dialogue
  • If plotter print, include paper type (gloss, satin, matte, or acetate)
  • If custom paper, include “custom.” We will wait for you to drop your paper in one of the shops before we send the print.
  • You can then include your own information/document name for reference if desired
  • EXAMPLE -  “kbrown02_301PLOTTER2_satin_mydoc01.ai”    this indicates that you would like a color plotter print on satin paper on the HP z5600 plotter in the Typeshop.

IF YOU HAVE NOT NAMED YOUR FILE CORRECTLY WE WILL NOT RELEASE YOUR PRINT. Nor will we have any way of knowing whose file it is so we won’t be able to contact you and let you know!

FOR PLOTTERS (wide format printers):
Next, in your print dialogue, include “page information” in the “marks and bleed” section. This will print your file name on your document, and thus the identifying information for the print so that we can get it to you. Add crop marks if you would like us to trim your piece. Make sure your page size is large enough to include the page information and crop marks. Your page size must be larger than your piece to print the information!

IF THIS INFORMATION DOES NOT APPEAR ON THE PRINT YOUR PRINT WILL BE DISCARDED WITH NO REFUND OR REPRINT!

FOR LASER PRINTERS (B&W and Color letter and tabloid size prints)
The file name will appear automatically on a cover sheet, so no crop marks or page information are required in your margins. Just make sure your file is saved with the correct naming style outlined above! The cover sheet option is set in the printer itself so you don’t need to create one in your print dialogue. You will not be charged for the cover page!

Please see the IT Services website for further information on printing on campus, including the Print Center located on the 1st floor of the Design Center Building.
